40 EV charging bays open at Westfield Shopping Centres across Australia

Owning an electric car has many benefits, but BMW Australia have just added another. You can now access 40 dedicated parking spots for your electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). These public charging bays are now available at 10 major Westfield centres across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Available to all EV and PHEV owners (with compatible vehicles), the stations offer free charging while you shop. These new charging spots are an important part of the infrastructure necessary to support continued adaption of electric vehicles in Australia.

The installation is just one element of the multi-faceted partnership with the marque showcasing the all-electric BMW i3 on an interactive display that will tour Westfield centres. Additionally a national valet parking sponsorship has been announced.

CEO of BMW Group Australia, Marc Werner said,

This partnership reinforces the BMW i brand’s innovative strength and commitment to smart sustainable solutions here in Australia.

BMW i3 Display featuring augmented reality experience.

The BMW i3 embodies BMW i’s latest innovations in providing the cleanest urban driving experience possible. The BMW i3 display touring Westfield shopping centres showcases these innovations through an augmented reality experience.

Utilising integrated iPads, visitors to the display can hover over vehicle hotspots to discover the i3’s green credentials. This presents facts about the vehicle’s interior features with highlights including recycled polyester seat trims that incorporate 40 per cent pure new wool, sustainable eucalyptus featured on interior and dash trims and olive leaf extract used to naturally tan interior leathers.

The experience will also explore the i3’s functionality – thanks to coach doors and a lounge-like rear seat – and focus on power, carbon core chassis construction, fast charging ability, electric engine and regenerative braking ability.

To find out when the display will be visiting your local centre, please see the Events section on the Westfield website www.westfield.com.au.
