It’s that time again, to upgrade my computer. Last Friday I made the decision to get a new PC, primarily to do the video editing involved with techAU.

After much research I settled on the Dell XPS 420, made the order and are anxiously awaiting arrival.

The specs of the new machine are as follows.

    Processor:
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600(2.4GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

    RAM:
    4GB (4x 1GB) DDR2 800Mhz

    HDD:
    500GB

    Graphics:
    512Mb Nvidia 8800GT

    Monitor:
    Dell 24″ Entry

A couple of the value add features that led to my decision to get the XPS 420, were the rubber matted top to store accessories like my iPod Touch.

A Windows SideShow LCD screen up front, I’ve been hanging out to try this, but haven’t had access to any computers or laptops with this yet. It allows you to use small apps while the computer is in sleep mode. So frequently I find myself wanting to do a quick 2 minute task, like check a calendar item, and have to boot up the machine to do this. Not any more with SlideShow. There’s also a bunch of other great apps for SideShow, I’ll definitely be bringing you more news on this once it arrives.

This new system will be far superior on render times than the old box I had. This literally means hours difference when rendering out the different versions of the podcast. Speaking of.. keep an eye out for more posts about the podcast real soon.
