We’re about to head into September which also means we’re about to get a new iPhone. Overnight Apple confirmed the announcement event will happen on September 7th. For those of us in Australia, the east coast will need to be up at 3AM on September 8th, thanks to the wonders of international timezones.

Much of the speculation around the iPhone 7 has been about the removal of the headphone jack. While that’s absolutely still likely, their announcement image which typically indicates part of the focus for the event, feature bokeh which suggests they’ll improve the camera and even have DSLR-style focus control.

When it comes to the headphone jack removal, its perhaps one of the most controversial moves from Apple in years. For those who’ve invested hundreds in headphones or earbuds, the suggestion of using an adapter is not an inviting one. Apple will likely include a new set of earbuds in the box that feature a new USB-C connector instead of the typical 3.5mm jack.

Also expected at the event is more on iOS10 that was announced back at WWDC and has been through multiple iterations on the developer channel. Now at beta 8, there’s a solid chance its ready for prime time and new iPhones will ship with the new OS.

So this raises the question of the release date for the new iPhone. While the announcement is just over a week away, it’s likely those waiting for an update will have to wait till later September to get their hands-on.

You’ll be able to stream the event live, as long as you have Ran iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Safari on iOS 7.0 or later, a Mac with Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X v10.8.5 or later, or a PC with Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. Streaming via Apple TV requires an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with software 6.2 or later or an Apple TV (4th generation).
