Aus PC World Magazine comes to an end in Jan

As the cost of print shows it age against it’s digital rival – the internet, magazines such as Australia’s own version of PC World have seen declining sales over the past 2 years. As much as 50% less in this case.

The problem I see that more and more publishers will find is the cost of the print version of the magazine has been rising, which obviously would attract less readers, however in the world of online, where things are relatively low-cost, the competition (i.e. thousands of websites) are giving away the same or very similar information for free.

So the problem then becomes their business model. As the rest of the world moves to advertising supported free content, the magazines have been double dipping in effect, charging advertisers for space in the mag, while also charging subscribers for the cost of the mag.

What used to work, no no longer does, the harsh reality is u need keep up with this technological age, of or go out of business.
