When it comes to the largest screen in the home, projectors offer the biggest of the big. The problem with projecting up to and over 100″ images is that 1080p quality simply isn’t enough. Strangely the projector market has been slow to add 4K resolution to their spec sheet, but that’s all set to change with a new model from BenQ.

The BenQ W11000 will be available from mid November in Australia and the W11000 is the world’s first THX certified DLP 4K Home Cinema Projector.

The Taiwan based BenQ, has more than 100,000 employees and with the W11000, they’ve met the CEA’s requirements for true 4K UHD with 8.3-megapixel resolution (3840×2160). The idea here is to allow those with home cinemas, to recreate that experience and quality available at a commercial cinema.

President of BenQ Corporation, Conway Lee said,

“The crowning achievement of W11000 showcases the extent of BenQ’s technology leadership.”

“No other projector demonstrates mastery of DLP, the preferred display technology in use at 100% of the world’s IMAX auditoriums, with 8.3-megapixel UHD performance and THX certification.”

THX 4K Display Certified Cinematic Quality

The 4K UHD resolution is done so through BenQ’s 1-chip DLP technology that delivers colour accuracy and integrity without artifact-free images that can be introduced by panel alignment issues. When you’ve got four times finer pixels than 1080p, this assurance is critical.

BenQ’s highly optimized 4K optical system then employs 16 high-resolution elements, a true zoom system, and special low-dispersion lens coatings to preserve spectacular visual quality for an authentic digital cinema experience.

The W11000 took more than 18 months of development and an exhausting 200 THX laboratory tests covering over 500 data points to ensure strict Rec. 709 colour accuracy, precise gamma, ideal colour temperature, enhanced uniformity, and super high native contrast ratio.

BenQ are right to make such a big deal about this milestone product with THX certification, guaranteeing accurate delivery of authentic cinematic content as filmmakers originally intended. Featuring high 400:1 native ANSI contrast ratio, Dynamic Black technology, SmartEco, and proprietary black paint sealed light engine produces an astounding 50,000:1 dynamic contrast performance for fine detail rendition in the darkest and brightest scenes without washout to preserve every subtlety of the original content.

BenQ also work their magic on the picture quality with their CinemaMaster image processing technology, improving smooth motion, vivid colour reproduction, motion-adaptive edge definition, flesh tone correction, and advanced digital colour and luminance noise reduction.

While some projectors require a specialist to come to your house and calibrate based on your environment (lighting etc) the W11000 comes calibrated by THX engineers for the best possible out-of-box picture quality.

Total Home Cinema Immersion from DLP Technology

Not content with just adding extra pixels, BenQ seem dedicated to the cause of delivering you the best home theater experience with natively support for the 2.35:1 anamorphic aspect ratio. This is the same ultra-wide experience of commercial digital cinemas. Its true UHD performance opens a wider viewing angle to allow comfortable viewing of ultra-detailed 4K images up close, maximizing the useable screen size in any given space for a mesmerizingly immersive movie watching experience. Keep in mind, this may impact your choice of projector screens into the future.

    Price

There’s probably no surprise that the latest in projector technology for the home doesn’t come cheap. With an MSRP of A$7,999 its certainly a premium price, but given prices of UHDTVs above 65″ get crazy fast, if you’re set on a 100″+ display, this cost can be justified.
