Bugatti take back the convertible world record at 408.84km/h

Supercar manufacturer Bugatti really doesn’t like being beaten. With an amazing speed of 408.84km/h they have just reclaimed the title of the world’s fastest production convertible with the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. Chinese racing driver Anthony Liu broke the record at Volkswagen Group’s proving grounds in Ehra-Lessien in Germany.

The non-convertible version, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport only just out does the Vitesse with a top speed of 429km/h.

Liu says “The car is even at such high speeds incredibly comfortable and stable. With an open top, you can really experience the sound of the engine and yet even at higher speeds I did not get compromised by the wind at all.”

There’s something pretty special about having the top speed of your car printed on the door sill. The special black-and-orange model will be on display at the Shanghai Motor Show in late April. If you’d like one, Bugatti plans to sell just 8 of them and each will cost around AUD$2,473,436.
