Check out Rick Kelly’s retro VASC helmet for 2017

Before you strap yourself into a 485kW V8 Supercar, you’d better make sure you’ve got you’re lid sorted. This year the amazingly talented guys at Sydney-based rStar Design have worked their magic for a very unique helmet for Rick Kelly’s 2017 season.

The 1950’s fighter jet theme for Rick Kelly‘s helmet is adorned with plenty of little details, including 13 little bombs to represent race, Bathurst and championship wins, in order.

As is the trend in design right now, the helmet has a matte finish, rather than the tradition gloss.

The air inlet and radio connections aren’t crafted into features of the helmet, but its the faux metal and rivet look that really makes it. Expect to see plenty of shots of the lady in the green dress riding a torpedo that adorns the top.

As Todd and Rick Kelly again lead the factory Nissan Motorsport team, 2017 now marks the team’s 4th year in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

In a big development for the racing category, one of the two extra Nissan’s will be piloted by the full-time Simona De Silvestro along Michael Caruso.

2017 is shaping up to be a great season for Nissan. At a practice session around Sydney Motorsport Park yesterday, Rick Kelly topped the timing charts, with a blistering lap of 1:28.78, beating the practice lap record set by Prodrive’s Chaz Mostert at last year’s August race meeting.

Fans of Supercars won’t have to wait long with the 2017 Championship commencing at Adelaide from the 02 – 05 March with the Clipsal 500.
