Confirmed: MyFord Touch coming to Australia in 2015 Mustang

Ford officially launched the 2015 Mustang tonight in Sydney, together with international counterparts Europe and America. The Mustang will combine power and technology to deliver a new performance vehicle down under. While the new Mustang comes in a meaty 5.0-liter V8, there’s also the option for an environmentally responsible 2.3Lt EcoBoost engine that still creates 305HP. While the horsepower under the hood is impressive, the more relevant is discussion is the technology inside.

For the first time in Australia, the 2015 Ford Mustang will introduce the MyFord Touch in-dash infotainment system. This builds on their existing voice-activated SYNC platform and next year we’ll see the introduction of SYNC AppLink 2.0 where developers can build mobile apps that integrate with the car and through a powerful SDK access a large number of vehicle sensors. MyFord Touch has been the missing piece of the puzzle as voice and text is great, the real movement in the industry is to larger touchscreen displays.

As for additional tech, the Mustang will leverage a lot of what we’ve already seen in their other world cars, the Ford Focus and Kuga. While its disappointing we won’t see MyFord Touch until 2015, it is great to have it confirmed. Developers, start thinking about how to safely utilise this.

If you missed the event live stream, it’s available for replay now and features Shane Jacobson of Top Gear and Kenny fame. If for nothing else, you should definitely check out the performances from Stonefield.
