Experiencing 8Gs of awesome, the flight of a lifetime

This week I had an experience that I’ll remember forever. During Microsoft’s TechEd conference on the Gold Coast, attendees had a chance to win a ride this trick plane. Sponsored by Office 365, the Extra 330LX aircraft is an amazing aircraft. Capable of a top speed of more than 400 km/h, a climb rate of 2000 feet per minute and a staggering roll rate of 360 degrees per second, its fast and agile.

I was lucky enough to be offered a ride in the front seat and without hesitation, I said yes. During the flight, we had a Lumia 925 securely mounted on the dash, to do a video call via Lync, over a Telstra 4G connection to the show floor. Attendees watched on as I experienced an aerobatic routine which put negative 2G and positive 8G forces on my body. Forget fast cars, forget rollercoasters, this experience was like no other, quite simply amazing.

Serious thanks to the Pilot Joel Haski from Red Baron who is sponsored by Red Bull for the life changing ride. I’d also like to thank Yoni Kirsh from Fastrack Technology, who’s stickers you’ll see on the plane and is also a pilot, but got me the amazing footage of the experience from 3x GoPro cameras. It’s breathtaking how amazing the footage looks as the sun sets over the Gold Coast.

So now the 10 minutes that changed my life, left my heart racing, breath heavy and memories for a lifetime.
