Facebook App Center is rolling out worldwide right now. Not everyone will see it yet, but the standard ‘try again later’ tag applies as Facebook’s servers rollout the update. There’s reportedly and impressive 600+ apps available at launch.
You can see from the screen shot below, apps like Spotify are presented with a large header graphic followed closely by which friends are using the app. This will be key to know which apps are hot and is an interesting take on the typical rating / release date app store filters.
Facebook applications come in a number of genres, including Games, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Music, News, Photos and more. There’s also two distinct platforms supported, both the web and Mobile. The Mobile apps work by clicking on a ‘Send to Mobile’ button which then sends a push notification to your device (with the Facebook app installed). That notification then links to the app store and allows you to install the Facebook-enabled app.
It will be interesting to see if this really does increase the adoption of apps on Facebook or just adds to the flood of irrelevant app posts to your friend’s timelines. What do you think? Leave a comment and let us know if the Facebook App Center will increase your usage of apps.
