During Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote at the Facebook Developer conference (F8), he revealed the number of Facebook users has grown from 28 million last year, to an impressive 90 million!! world wide.
With that incredible growth, there’s some serious money to be made. Zuckerberg’s keynote focused a lot on the ongoing development of the platform, looking to reward those developers that expand Facebook’s usefulness and do more to stop the those that detract.
With the Facebook UI refresh this week, we’ve seen those annoying applications renamed as ‘boxes’. While still accessible to those who want to play meaningless games like Vampires vs Zombies, boxes now make applications accessible, but not overwhelming.
Look for many more direct Facebook integrations going forward, similar to the existing Digg partnership that lets your friends know what stories you’ve Dugg by adding it to your News Feed.
As social network fatigue kicks in, I find myself using Facebook less, however the future of the platform looks bright. If done properly Facebook may just become the central hub for all my activities.
