Season 2 of the all-electric Formula E competition gets underway on October 24th in Beijing. Still 11 days out, fans can now help their favourite driver in the race with an electric boost known as ‘FanBoost’ awarded to the most popular driver. This extra hit of battery power works much like the push to pass that we’ve seen in F1 over in years gone by. The big difference here is that it’s not team or driver managed, it’s from the fans.

Right now Antonio Felix da Costa is at the top of the leaderboard with 12% of the vote, but that could definitely change before the race start. FanBoost is a unique way that fans can engage with the sport and feel like they are making a difference.

It’s really easy to vote, just visit http://fanboost.fiaformulae.com and click Vote. You’ll be asked to sign in with your Facebook account to ensure you’re not voting multiple times. This year Formula E are also adding the ability to vote via Social Media, namely twitter and Instagram which is smart, given it’ll help spread the word about the growing sport.

FanBoost is back for season two! Here Jack Nicholls explains the changes that have been introduced, which include in-race voting and how to vote on social media

FanBoost now closes six minutes into the race allowing fans to make their vote count during an ePrix.

Due to the changes FanBoost is now only available in the second car after a driver makes their mid-race car swap. The three drivers with the most votes will each receive an extra 100kJ of power to be used in a window between 180kW and 200kW.

This time the extra boost is a one time shot of power that has to be used all at once, so drivers better choose wisely.
