We’re not sure how many Chinese are in the market for a supercar, but that hasn’t stopped Ford from showing off the new Ford GT supercar at CES Asia. After being unveiled earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) it’s now in Shanghai for the week.
The 2016 Ford GT supercar will feature the most powerful EcoBoost production engine ever, a new twin-turbocharged Ford EcoBoost V6 producing more than 600 horsepower. The car also strips anything not necessary for outright driving performance, but it’s those looks that has everyone talking.
Getting up close and personal with the GT, it’s easy to see just how unique the styling really is. It’s low, really low and that puts your bottom close to the ground like an angry, oversized go-kart on steroids. That rear-mounted engine is located just over your shoulder and there’s just not enough good things that can be said about that rear end. The use of carbon fibre on this beast is extensive, there’s no other way to put it. What isn’t blue is black woven fibres of carbon, which adds, strength while being incredibly light.
It’s an absolute achievement in vehicle design with the whole package feeling integrated, instead of pieces bolted together. For a company that sometimes struggles to articulate why you should by a Ford over a competitor, this uniqueness speaks for itself.
The car won’t come chap and if you’re not budget won’t stretch for one, you can get behind the wheel virtually. The Ford GT will feature as the cover car on the prestigious Forza Motorsport 6, which is said to be playable at E3 in June.
