Get ready, Nissan’s bringing their GT-R NISMO GT3 down under

The Australian GT racing series is going from strength to strength and the latest entrant is the monster GT-R NISMO GT3 from Nissan. As if the standard GT-R wasn’t crazy enough, the GT3 edition has all the insane aero parts (made of carbon fibre of course) and a wing that’s bigger than a most small cars.

If you’re heading to one of the final 2 events on the Australian GT Endurance calendar (weirdly both in NZ), then you’ll get to see the GT-R GT3 in action. From the 28th-30th October 2016, the endurance race at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park. Auckland, New Zealand.

A couple weeks later, 13th November 2016, the championship reaches Highlands Motorsport Park, Queenstown, New Zealand.

This takes us to the question of who the lucky sons that get to pilot the GT-R GT3. Nissan Motorsport Supercars Championship driver Michael Caruso will lead the driver line-up.

    Michael Caruso said,

“I’m very excited and grateful to be getting my first opportunity to race the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3,”

I am a lifelong GT-R fan and I’ve had the chance to test the car a couple of times now. So it will be great to race it at these two New Zealand events alongside our Aussie GT Academy winner Matt Simmons, who has been racing one of these cars this year in Europe.”

Caruso will drive with 2015 Nissan PlayStation GT Academy International winner Matt Simmons, who has spent 2016 racing a GT-R NISMO GT3 in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup in Europe.

    Matt Simmons said,

“I can’t think of a better way to cap off my first year of racing than to compete in my home GT Championship – albeit on the other side of the Tasman over in New Zealand,” said Matt Simmons.

Racing alongside Michael will be a buzz. A little over 12 months ago I was cheering him on in Supercars, now I’m his team-mate in a Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3.”

The #35 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 will be entered as ‘Nissan GT Academy Team Kelly’ and run by the Kelly family-owned Nissan Motorsport race team.
