With 225 employees, 125,000 customers and more than 1.5 million websites in over 100 countries, Media Temple is one of the largest web hosts on the internet. Today they announced they’ve been acquired by GoDaddy.
Demian Sellfors, CEO and Co-founder of Media Temple says the company will remain independent, however the internet is not swallowing it. To say there’s been some angry customers would be an understatement, many believe that GoDaddy has very different values and business practices to what they’d signed up for and have already begun looking at alternates.
While Media Temple are trying to spin this as not about money and a good cultural fit. It’s really hard to believe that given the dramatic difference in websites. Media Temple have a strong, professional look, while GoDaddy are renowned for their use of busty girls to sell product. Despite toning down the use of this type of advertising, the customer service issues with the discount domain and hosting provider remain.
Basically this was never going to go well and clearly people are angry. Check out some of the reactions below.
