By now most people on the internet have used Google StreetView. It’s a fantastic tool that allows users to visit and experience locations around the world and pan around their streets as if you were walking the streets. This has been expanded to inside shopping centers, the ocean, the sky and now inside the CERN’s Large Hadron Collider.
Australia was about to be proud of its largest infrastructure project, the NBN, but that pales in significance when compared to this enormous particle accelerator. While you can’t virtually walk end to end (that’d take you a year), the streetview of the LHC does allow you to experience it through images taken back in 2011.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research, known as CERN, located in Switzerland, is the world’s largest particle physics laboratory where some of the world’s best physicists and engineers use advanced particle accelerators to help solve age old questions about the universe like what it’s made of and how it started.
