GoPro finally adds a touchscreen with a new Hero+ LCD

Overnight, GoPro announced its new HERO+ LCD which is of course a touchscreen. This makes it easier to access options, watch back footage or just frame shots. The built-In touch display even lets you edit and trim video footage right from the camera, then send it to a device over WiFi.

GoPro cameras are seriously impressive for what they can capture at such a small and compact size. To add a touchscreen without extra bulk is a welcome addition. The new HERO+ LCD camera will sell for a recommended retail price of A$429.00

Like the entry-level HERO, the HERO+ LCD is built directly into its waterproof housing. As you watch footage from GoPro cameras, it’s easy to think the product is really only targeting enthusiasts with a death wish for extreme sports, but in reality, if you can swallow the price tag, the product is easy to use. The most difficult challenge you’ll have isn’t operating it, it’s deciding how much you’ll drop on accessories. The list of mounts available for the GoPro cameras is insane, almost anything you can think of, there’s a solution for it. This makes it great for Cars, helmets, surfboards, snowboards, pole mounts and more and the small size means you can capture footage from places not possible with larger cameras. Imagine you were trying to capture footage from a miniature train set, other cameras would have no chance at riding on top of the train through the tunnels, but the GoPro could.

Founder and CEO of GoPro, Nick Woodman said,

“HERO+ LCD illustrates that even as we push the limits of life capture with bleeding-edge devices like the HERO4 Black, we’re also focused on delivering accessible, high-quality capture solutions to anyone wanting to GoPro,”

The addition of a touch display makes the GoPro a more approachable camera solution and is more likely to be added to the photography options of “normal” families. Combining GoPro’s famous image quality in a small package, versatility of mounting options and and WiFi connectivity to smart phones, GoPro just took a great product and made it even better.
