So there was a surprised us with a Surface laptop called the SurfaceBook. Meet the first laptop Microsoft has ever made. Wonder how their partners are feeling right about now?

It has a bonkers hinge, unlike anything we’ve seen before. Microsoft says the typing on this is the best keyboard they’ve ever made. The SurfaceBook has a 13.5” PixelSense display and Microsoft are claiming 12 hour battery life. The Xbox team even contributed to the graphics on this device.

By the way, the screen actually detaches from the keyboard and is usable as a tablet. The ports and the GPU live in the base. You can flip the screen around access the screen directly, but still take advantage of the horsepower. This is called ‘draw mode’ and supports touch or pen input. The aspect ratio of the display means it’s very similar to the size of an A4 sheet of paper.

Apparently “the ultimate laptop” splits in two.
