Many of you may not be familiar with the NextEV, so lets start with that. They are a team in the Formula E Championship and have leveraged that learning in motorsport, to create an all-electric road car, the NIO EP9.

In London overnight, the announcement of the came with the amazing announcement that this car has broken the lap record around the famous Nürburgring.

On October 12th 2016, the EP9 lapped the massive 20.8km track in just 7 minutes 5.12 seconds. This makes it the fastest electric car around the track. For those playing at home, the fastest ever lap by any car was achieved by the  Radical SR8LM.

There are just 2 road cars to beat the EP9, they are the Porshe 918 Spider with a time of 6:57:00 and the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce with a time of 6:59.73.

That means the EP9 is faster than a Nissan GT-R a Lexus LFA a Porsche 911 GT2 RS and a Ferrari 488 GTB.

The car features a mega 4 motors and 4 individual gearboxes, to achieve a staggering 1-MegaWatt of power. When it comes to speed, the EV powertrain accelerates from 0-200km/h in 7.1 seconds through to a top speed of 313km/h.

While Tesla may have ditched their interchangeable battery system, NextEV believe in it, so you have a choice to switch it out for a charged battery or use rapid charging for 45 minutes to get a range of 427 kilometres.

The Founder and Chairman, of the Chinese brand NextEV, William Li, said:

“Today we launched our electric supercar that broke the record at the Nordschliefe. The NIO EP9 was born to push limits and is the first stage of automotive production for NIO.

It is a statement of our vision and technical and manufacturing capabilities. It is a best-in-class product that showcases what is possible with electric vehicles.

We believe that when the car ownership experience exceeds expectations, electric vehicles will become the natural choice for everyone, leading to a more sustainable tomorrow. And with that, our vision of a blue sky will come true.”
