Microsoft’s Silverlight is their rich media player that competes with Adobe’s Flash player. Microsoft have just landed a major win for Silverlight in establishing a partnership with Nokia, that will see a number of their devices add Silverlight support.
Flash lite, Adobe’s mobile version of their player, is somewhat restrictive for developers, reducing the functionality available on the desktop. It still remains to be seen if a full version of Silverlight will run on mobile devices, I suspect not, given the restricted performance available on the form factor of a mobile device.
This follows the announcement in January the Microsoft would deliver over 2,200 hours of the Beijing Olympics later this year using Silverlight. It looks like Microsoft are pushing hard for market share in the rich player market.
