Office 365 inc Office 2013, now free for lots of students and teachers

Microsoft have made an important change today in the sale of Office. Millions of students across the globe can now get Office for free. If the education organisation you study with has a volume license with Microsoft, you’ll be able to signup to Office 365 with your school email address and get all the benefits that come along with a subscription.

An Office 365 subscription includes the Office 2013 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access and Publisher) as well as 1 TB of OneDrive Storage and access to Office Web Apps.

Some organisations have been eligible for a while, but IT departments have been slow to configure student accounts and publicize the deal, so Microsoft are making it easier than ever for students to access Office. This is a smart business, to get students using office early, as when they graduate and move into the workplace, they’ll likely be using Office. If they make it to a position of influence, it’s likely they’ll recommend what they know.

This deal doesn’t stop with students, teachers also get the same offer and can visit this page to signup with their work email. I can confirm this is working for a large number of Australian education providers including schools, TAFE’s and Universities.
