Pacman coming in September staring plenty of pixels (and Adam Sandler)

Like a lot of people my age, I grew up on video games. There was no bigger game at the time than Pacman. As we increasingly see popular video games made into feature-length movies, it was just a matter of time before Pacman made it to the big screen with a budget of $110 Million.

In Pixels, intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner, now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten, a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.

The movie has an impressive case including Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage and Josh Gadand Brian Cox. Directed by Chris Columbus, Screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling, Story by Tim Herlihy (don’t expect much story), Based on the short film by Patrick Jean, Produced by Adam Sandler, Chris Columbus, Mark Radcliffe, and Allen Covert.

Don’t take this too seriously, if you go see it in September this year, it’ll be a movie that has some neat special effects, lots of comedy and let you reminisce about a miss-spent youth on the end of a NES controller.
