Rapportive acquisition shows up as LinkedIn Intro

If you want to know more about the people that send you email, then LinkedIn Intro could be for you. After LinkedIn acquired Rapportive last year, we waited until today to see how LinkedIn would integrate their service. The new product is called LinkedIn Intro and starting today is available in English for Gmail, Google Apps, Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, and iCloud users on the iPhone.

The decision to target mobile was generated from the growth of mobile email. In the past 4 years less than 4% of emails were read on mobile. In 2013, that number has exploded to around 50%, so you can understand why they launched on mobile first.

One of the biggest advantages of LinkedIn Intro is knowing more about the person that you’re communicating with. This allows you to tailor responses to be personal and relevant based on what you know (or didn’t know) about them .

It’s also great to have photos integrated into the experience so you can easily put a face to the name. This has been available in desktop mail clients for some time, but the default iPhone Mail app is currently very text heavy.
