Samsung Round has a curved screen so it can rock your desk

Samsung have officially announced their first device with a curved display. The 5.7” full HD display hides a 2.3GHz quad-core processor and 3GB RAM which is powered by a 2,800 mAh battery and has a 13 megapixel camea, so the phone is no slouch. The problem is that Samsung have failed to adequately explain the need for the curved display.

Just like the trend in TVs, it’s very much a scenario of ‘because we could’. Now I will admit its hard to stand out in the smartphones space, but I’m not sure why Samsung needs to stand out from Samsung at this point.

With the curved design, it means that when placed on a flat surface like a table, the phone will rock. Samsung will try and tell you this is a feature so you can rock it to see the current time and notifications, but ultimately the ‘Roll Effect’ could also be achieved by tapping the screen or waving your hand over the top of the device, so yes, its a gimmick.

The Galaxy Round will be available in Korea from October 10th, no word on local availability. If you want a curved phone or can think of any practical uses for it, then leave a comment and let us know what you think.
