Sharp’s new almost 8K display is stunning

    image

At their CES 2015 press conference this morning Sharp showcased a range of new displays. With everyone talking about 4K, it’s hard to stand out, but Sharp just did. Their ‘Beyond 4K’ display will be the highest resolution commercially available display in 2015. This display isn’t technically 8K in quality, but it may as well be.

Sharp says it’s basically the same as looking through the window, which isn’t wrong, its ridiculously clear, but it’s hard to really appreciate that when what most of us see out a window is pretty lame. The visuals on any showcase display are basically best case scenario.

What’s important to remember is that we’re just solving the content problem with 4K, thanks to online streaming services like Netflix. The number of content sources for this display would be basically non-existent. Of course the display can upscale 4K, or even HD, but to really justify the premium pricing (not yet announced), they need a story to tell here.

If you’re a company that wants to put this display in your store, then it’s likely you’ll be able to fund the development of dedicated content specifically for it, probably shot on RED cameras.

The sad thing is looking at this post on your display, no matter how good it is, won’t allow to realise the full quality of this display. This is really a breathtaking display and will be out later in 2015.
