Premium networked, multi-room audio system makers Sonos have just announced a brand new product, the first since the Sonos Sub last year. The Sonos PLAYBAR is a soundbar that is way smarter than most. As a Sonos device, it connects your entertainment system and with the rest of the Sonos system around your house.
One neat trick you can try is adding the Sonos Sub for 3.1 sound, or a couple of PLAY:3 speakers and get a fully Sonos driven 5.1 Home Theatre system. The PLAYBAR connects easily via an optical audio cable and has both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connection options.
The Sonos PLAYBAR contains now fewer than 9 class D amplifiers, 9 amplified speakers 6 midrange and 3 tweeters, all packaged in a very stylish design. Sonos products always skew on the side of quality over price point and while there’s no price announced yet, this won’t be cheap. That said, what would you pay to add Sonos to your Home Entertainment setup? Personally the answer is, a lot.
Sonos Australia are holding demos in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane over the next few weeks to allow some to hear the experience in person.
- SYDNEY: 13-14 FEBRUARY at THE FRASER SUITES
- MELBOURNE: 19-21 FEBRUARY at CROWN METROPOL
- BRISBANE: 5-7 MARCH at HILTON BRISBANE
We’re on the list for a review unit, so expect a full run down of the Sonos PLAYBAR next month. What would a Sonos product announcement be without a healthy dose of Deadmau5, check out the launch video to see what is no doubt about to disrupt the soundbar market.
