This is the first of a series of posts, called Test the Tech for OfficeWorks, these videos walk through some of the latest products, explaining the features, but also putting them to the test.

In this video, we check out the new 4K monitor from Acer, the CB280HK for those playing at home. HD displays are so 2010 and the new flavour of the day is 4K or UHD, that’s 3840 x 2160 pixels.

Acer know you’ll have a variety of configurations you want to plug into the display, so there’s a DVI, HMDI and Display Port and Mini Display Port, so take your pick at display connections. It also features built-in speakers, but you’re probably ok with your favourite headset.

The 28” 4K monitor could replace your current dual-screen setup and is perfect for those working on photography or complex documents to fit much more on the screen at once. Increasingly we’re finding video from phones and cameras like GoPro’s that are in 4K quality. Dealing with that on anything less than a 4K display and you’re just guessing about the final output.

We put the display to the test by comparing the same image on a 1080p display and the pixel density really is seriously impressive. Remember most 4K displays are 55” and above, so to have that resolution in a 28” screen means the individual pixels are indistinguishable, even up close. When compared to a normal monitor, or the one on your desk, it’s night and day.

If you’re in the market for a display for your desk, 4K is no longer an option, it’s a requirement.

More information at Acer, available from OfficeWorks for A$484.00.
