Joe Belfiore showed off a new fullscreen mode for the Windows 10 start menu. This will be available in the next build.. no date on the release yet.
Typically users have had to choose if they want the desktop experience and a traditional Windows 7 style start menu, or a modern full screen experience, like that found in Windows 8. In Windows 10, Microsoft will give users the ability to decide.
