New figures out of the Australian Bureau of Statistics highlight the growing trend for Australians to adopt faster Internet connections. Leaving those decade old dial-up connections behind around 1.2 Million Australians have not only moved to broadband (1.5Mb connections) but rather the even faster 8 – 24Mb connections.
Personally I’m on an 8Mb connection and it’s a great experience, pages lost instantly, videos play effortlessly without buffering and downloading large files is done in minutes, not hours.
I’d suggest large part of the reason for this growth is the rollout of the infrastructure to support it as well as a reduction in cost of monthly plans.
As a producer of a HD Podcast (usually between 200-400Mb), news like this makes me very happy, let’s hope this number continues to grow and downloading larger files becomes second nature.
