Apple tvOS gets multi-user, Xbox and PlayStation controller support

On stage at their WWDC, Tim Cook has just announced details of the latest update to tvOS.

In the next release, tvOS will add multi-user support. Netflix has offered multi-user support for years, which makes the TV experience great for each user, given the recommendation for new content is based on who’s watching.

It is great to see Apple add support for this important feature and below we see the interface with user accounts, complete with profile photos.

As you play your personalised music on the AppleTV, you’ll now get to see lyrics play in sync on the TV. If you’re someone who frequently hosts karaoke nights, you’ll absolutely love this feature.

One of my favourite announcements is around gaming on the AppleTV. Apple are adding support for serious controllers in the form of Microsoft’s Xbox One and PlayStation’s DualShock 4 controllers.

As the games available get more complex, it makes sense controller support is added, with something like driving really enhanced with inputs from triggers and thumbsticks. These controls allow precise analog inputs, rather than digital inputs from your mobile device.
