Carrying keys suck, and when our car keys have already evolved into something more digital, why can’t our house keys? Yves Behar has a solution.
August is the gate keeper of the future, it knows who you are and can let whoever you want in just with the use of a phone. The gorgeous August smart lock was shown off this morning at the D11 conference. It attaches itself to your deadbolt and runs on batteries so you aren’t locked out if your power goes out.
How it works is, it pairs with your Bluetooth connection on your phone to authenticate you, and then unlocks the door to let you in before you even get to it. It has some other handy features like identity management which you can use to invite friends so they don’t get locked out, and your lazy self doesn’t have to get off the couch to let them in. You can also use it to keep certain people out if you don’t want to let them in.
There’s no word on the release date, other than after you pre-order it says orders will be sent out by the end of the year. It’s priced at $US199 and you can pre-order it now.
Welcome to the future.
