Most large-scale conferences now contain giveaways for attendees. This year Microsoft Build attendees weren’t disappointed, actually, probably spoilt with a  bag of goodies from Redmond. Below is a list of the giveaways for 2013 which will no doubt have 2014 tickets sold out in record time.

  • Microsoft Surface Pro (128GB model)
  • Surface Type Cover
  • Acer Iconia W3 8” Tablet
  • Acer Bluetooth Clavier Keyboard
  • 100GB SkyDrive
  • $25.00 Credit in the Windows Phone Store
  • 16GB USB 3.0 thumbdrive (Contained Windows 8.1 preview, Visual Studio 2013).

That is a seriously impressive giveaway with the retail price tag nudging the price of the Build ticket. It’s never a bad idea to put hardware and software in the hands of passionate developers and see what comes out. The theory is, and we’ll have to wait to see, that these developers will go away and use these products to write apps that ultimately move the platforms forward.

What do you think of the Build giveaways this year?
