Energy Australia giving away 4 Tesla Powerwalls

    Powerwall

EnergyAustralia is running a competition that will give away 4 Tesla Powerwall home battery and solar packages in an effort to show how the technology can benefit everyday people. The competition opened on the May 18 and will close June 17, 2016, so get after it.

EnergyAustralia’s Chief Customer Officer, Kim Clarke said,

While they haven’t been on the market long, Tesla Energy’s home battery product has already captured the imagination for the potential to give customers control over their energy consumption.

More and more people are asking us for advice on how they can reduce their reliance on the electricity grid so we wanted to demonstrate what the technology can do for real people in real-life situations.

    Solar from EnergyAus

Those lucky households that win the free Powerwall and Solar Package will work with EnergyAustralia to tell their story, so expect some nice data from real-world use cases to arrive. This information has been lacking from a lot of the solar discussion. Many providers will be keen to talk about the best case scenario with solar, but as we know that’s almost never the reality. With solar tarrifs for energy returned to the grid being so low, adding a battery to store the solar energy locally, seems like the most viable way forward.

Under the program, EnergyAustralia will install the 6.4kWh Tesla Powerwall home battery and compatible solar system. The batteries and solar power systems will be installed in all four homes by September this year. Customers can monitor their system performance in real time via a web portal and smartphone app.

Entry is open to owners of free-standing, owner-occupied houses in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria, sorry WA, TAS, SA and NT, you’re out of luck.

To be in the running, you’ll need to submit a video or written answer, explaining why they want a Tesla Powerwall and how it would help manage their energy usage.
