A new vehicle recall has been issued today for four thousand, five hundred and fifty one Kia EV6’s.
The vehicles covered in the recall are model years 2021 to 2024 and includes all variants. This means the recall includes every Kia EV6 that has ever been sold in Australia.
This issue relates to a software issue and while other EV manufacturers regularly resolve software issues with an over-the-air update, this is not possible in this instance. Every one of the 4,551 Kia EV6 vehicles will need to visit the dealership to have the issue resolved.
What are the defects?
Due to a software issue, the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may develop an internal fault causing a warning light to illuminate on the instrument cluster and the 12 Volt battery to stop charging. This could result in a loss of motive power.
What are the hazards?
A loss of motive power may occur if the warning lights are ignored which could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users.
What should consumers do?
Owners of affected vehicles should immediately contact their preferred Kia dealer to schedule an appointment to have the ICCU inspected and replaced if required. In addition, the ICCU software will be upgraded. All repairs will be performed free of charge.
