Pay TV service Foxtel has now completed its acquisition of Austar. For years, Australian Pay TV subscribers have been forced to a provider based on their location. Foxtel if you live in the city, Austar if you’re in the country. While Pay TV should be Pay TV regardless of your location, there are some important differences.
Once such example of a difference is the Foxtel on Xbox 360 app. While technically there was nothing stopping Foxtel from delivering IPTV via the Xbox 360 to Austar / regional areas, the postcode restriction was in place. Thanks to the recent acquisition of Austar, Foxtel for the Xbox 360 should be available for all Australians shortly.
Foxtel chief executive, Richard Freudenstein, said “Soon consumers will receive the same great Foxtel content whether you live in regional Australia or the cities.”
Foxtel will now service around 2.2 million households.
