Groupon Australia just hit-up their Facebook page again with an update.. less than 6 hours to go before the first deals are released.. excited ?
Announcing the launch earlier today on Facebook, the US-based discount deal giant Groupon, will launch in Australia within the next 24 hours. Under the name ‘Star Deals by Groupon Australia’ the company valued at more than 6 billion dollars will launch discounts in 4 capital cities down under. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth residents will all get to group share / buy discount offers at launch, with man more cities to be added soon.
While there’s plenty of Groupon clones already in Australia, none have the size or brand awareness that groupon does. Also given their success internationally, Groupon clearly know about customer acquisition in this space. Make no mistake about it, Groupon clone will be squashed. Their best chance at success is being acquired by Groupon if they have any kind of numbers, but a much more likely scenario is an array of ship wrecked discount services.
To give you an idea of just how hot this space is, at the end of 2010, Telsyte measured over 20 group buying sites in Australia. The top 4 sites (Spreets, Scoopon, Jump On It, and Cudo) represent 79% of the industry’s revenues.
Will you be signing up ?
