Due to that darling timezone offset, Apple’s announcement meant a 4am start for Australian tech journalists. Fortunately there was a lot of great news announced for iPhone owners which made it worth it.

Developers receive the new SDK today, iPhone Software 3.0 will be released mid-year (Summer US time). Free to iPhone owners, US$9.95 for iPod Touch owners.
We didn’t see any new hardware announced, but overall I think they’ve addressed the major consumer complaints.
Best coverage
I watched a combination of sources – Twitter (of course), Ars Technica (used Cover it Live), GDGT, Engadget, Gizmodo, Cali Lewis on uStream, even tuned into BOL Live at one stage. I did try Leo on TWiT Live, but he’s having issues with the live stream and was running re-runs.
Overall the 2 sites that did the best job was GDGT (we expect nothing less from you Ryan), and Ars Technica. They were the fastest to update information and GDGT had the best photos from the event.
Now the long wait till iPhone 3.0 arrives..
