This morning at 8am the iPhone 5 goes on sale at Apple Stores around the country and select Apple resellers. You can also pickup the latest iPhone from select Telstra, Optus and Vodafone stores. Thanks to the magic of international time zones, Aussies will be one of the first in the world to get the iPhone5.
With a collective snooze after the announcement of changes (larger display, faster, lighter, 4G, new dock connector), the launch will be interesting to watch. We know from twitter and whirlpool threads that lines are happening, but the question is will the iPhone5 break sales records as we’ve come to expect.
This is an incredibly strange morning for me personally. I have purchased ever iPhone version that has launched in Australia.. The iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, hell I even bought the iPod touch which was was Australia’s first taste of Apple’s touchscreen experience. This time any other year I’d be in-line waiting to collect my new iPhone, but not this year.
After breaking my 24 month contract to upgrade every 12 months, there just isn’t enough new here to warrant the expense of doing that. Clearly there’s plenty of people who will continue to do this, but personally I just don’t feel like I’m missing out by not upgrading.
So are you in-line now ready to upgrade? Or are you like me and skipping a generation?
