Toyota has partnered with Australia’s leading EV infrastructure company, JET Charge, to roll out the largest EV dealer charging network in the country in preparation for the launch of its flagship BEV, the bZ4X.
Over 18 months, JET Charge has supplied and installed EV charging hardware at 244 metropolitan and rural Toyota dealerships across every state and territory. This partnership sets a new standard for dealership charging networks and at-home charging possibilities across Australia.
JET Charge Co-Founder Tim Washington emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating:
JET Charge’s comprehensive approach not only equips dealers with the necessary hardware and technical knowledge but also provides customers with a seamless pathway to at-home EV charging.
As Toyota’s approved aftermarket supplier of EV hardware, JET Charge supplies two charging cables with every bZ4X. This means you get an AC charger for home, and a Type2 to Type2 charger for those BYO charging stations.
Toyota Australia Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Sean Hanley, highlighted the significance of this partnership in Toyota’s commitment to decarbonization:
This collaboration between JET Charge and Toyota marks a significant step forward in Australia’s EV landscape, demonstrating a commitment to supporting widespread EV adoption and providing a seamless transition for consumers.
Toyota’s bZ4X is available for A$71,527 driveaway for the RWD base model, or from A$80,769 for the AWD edition.
On the website, Toyota shares the following information about charging the bZ4X.
Home charger
It takes approx. 90 minutes to regain up to 100km range (NEDC). To charge from 10% to 100%, it’ll take approximately 7 hours, using the Mode 2 charging cable included (5 metres, standard home powerpoint).
If you want or need faster, then there’s an optional wall-mounted home fast charger available via JET Charge at an additional cost.
Public fast charger
When you’re on a road trip, things get faster, recovering that same 100km of range in just 13 minutes, rather than 90mins at home.
To recharge from 10%, you’ll need to spend 60 minutes to get a full charge using the Mode 3 charging cable included for public AC charging.
