The now annual tradition of Lizard Squad is upon us. They’re once again launching attacks against gaming networks of Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Steam, disrupting the enjoyment of gamers around the world.
The tweets announcing the impending attack began about an hour ago from the @LizardInvasion account.

Other than doing it for the LOLs, its still unclear why the LizardSquad group continue to launch DDOS attacks on gaming services. If you got a brand new game for Christmas, or worse, gave one to your kids, chances are that game needs to connect to online services to verify or at least do a zero day update which will now be unavailable. Then there’s issue of games that are online only, that means you likely won’t be gaming today.
Hopefully Australian’s got the majority of their gaming done yesterday before these attacks commenced, in-line with the US celebrations of Christmas.
As evidenced by a visit to the Xbox Live status page, the service is indeed offline.
