QR codes, those little barcode things that business’ try to use to link you to a product through with a quick scan through your phone, well, they can have the potential to link to A LOT of information through one snapshot, and it seems that Mercedes-Benz has found a way to make that useful.

The German car maker is planning on putting the symbols on their vehicles so that emergency crews just need a phones camera to scan it and easily access the vehicles rescue sheet where the schematics that show where to cut into the smashed car are located. With this information, it will cut valuable time that would usually be spent waiting for a model confirmation and also eliminate the risk of accidentally cutting wires or fuel lines.

Mercedes is also being Mr. Good Guy and not patenting its method in the hope that every vehicle manufacturer will adopt the method to help save lives.
