Mountain Dew drop $500k on real-life skateboard pinball

    Mountain Dew Skate Pinball

Don’t you just love when companies have too much money to know what to do with ? Mountain Dew have whipped out the credit card to create skate pinball, a real life pinball machine that can be skated. The crazy pinball-style skate park opens to 30 of New Zealand’s top skateboarders tomorrow – 2pm, Sat 4 June.

Complete with lights, sensors and sound effects controlled by software that trigger messages on the big screen, the whole project is bizarrely impressive. Riders are propelled through the 600sq metre arena triggering clipping points that add to their overall score. Skate competitions typically have a scoring mechanism, but this takes it to a whole other level.

Check out the making of video featuring lots of great time-lapse magic.
