Origin Energy offering up to $3,800 on a standalone Powerwall 2, additional $6,000 off with 11kW solar package

Power Prices are on the move in Australia, set to increase by as much as 25% in NSW, SE QLD, SA and Victoria as reported recently by the ABC. As a mitigation to that price rise, an increasing amount of Australian households will be looking at home battery storage, to capture energy from the sun and reduce their demand from the grid.

Origin Energy has a new offer to save as much as A$9,800 on a Tesla Powerwall and solar bundle. There is plenty of fine print on this one, but it may be a great deal for those already consider battery storage and an even better one if you don’t yet have solar.

Origin Energy will reduce the price of a Tesla Powerwall 2 by up to $3,800, estimating the regular installed cost is $17,795. Back in April I got a Powerwall quote for A$15,501.00, so I’m not sure that saving is entirely accurate.

The final installed price through Origin, would be $13,995 (incl GST), but that also includes the initial $2,300 off the RRP of the 13.5kWh battery, as well as an additional $1,500 when you connect it to Origin Loop VPP and stay connected for five years.

The virtual power plant allows other homes in your neighbourhood to leverage the energy stored in your battery, helping reduce the cost of energy delivery to the utility, as such they can pass some savings on to you.

If you don’t already have solar and are looking to go big, Origin is offering a Tesla Powerwall and 11 kW solar system for A$21,280 (inc GST). The details of this are as follows:

    • Save $2,300 off the 13.5 kW Tesla Powerwall
    • Save up to $6,000 on 11 kW PV system
    • Plus sign up to the Origin Loop virtual power plant (VPP) and stay connected for five years to save a further $1,500
    • $0 upfront on 5-year interest free
    • 14c FIT for systems over 7kW when you take up Origin Solar Boost Plus
    • Offer ends July 31st, 2023

If you’re in Victoria and haven’t yet used leveraged the Solar Homes program, you could save even more with a Victorian Government solar battery rebate. As part of the Solar Homes Program, eligible Victorians could save up to $2,950 on the upfront price of a solar battery, on top of Origin discounts.

Keen to get a Tesla Powerwall, I attempted to get a quote and quickly learned that this incentive is currently only available if you live up to 150km from Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney CBDs.
