REVIEW: Razer Viper V3 Pro is one of the lightest mice I’ve ever picked up

Launched in September, the Razer Viper V3 Pro is a wireless, lightweight mouse designed for pros. Whether you’re a gamer, a coder, or you just want a decent mouse for your work, the Viper V3 is a great choice if you’re in the market for a wireless mouse.

We got our hands on this upgraded mouse to give you the latest on this new technology.

    Razer Viper lineup

In the past, we’ve reviewed the Razer Viper Mini, and Razer Viper, and looked at the Razer Viper V2‘s specs. The Razer Viper V3 provides the next stage in mouse technology. Like the Viper V2, it has an Optical Sensor, however it’s been upgraded to 35K Generation Two.

In real terms, you probably won’t notice the difference. In technological terms, this means it tracks better on all surfaces regardless of the texture, and the mouse itself is more sensitive to your movements.

Unless you are gunning for S-tier in Valorant, you probably won’t notice the difference. But if you’re like me, then you’ll appreciate the fact you have one of the most high-tech mice in existence.

    Out of the box

Razer gives you everything you need to get going with this mouse. Out of the box, you have the usual Razer stickers, mouse cable, wireless receiver, and Razer Viper V3 Pro.

    Connectivity and range

There’s zero setup required with this mouse. You can plug it in and start using it immediately. However, whilst you need to plug in the mouse directly to charge, the mouse won’t work unless you use it wirelessly. You must connect the wireless receiver to use the Razer Viper V3 Pro, as there is no Bluetooth option.

The long USB cable means you can place the wireless receiver wherever it suits. There’s no official specs on the range, but I took the mouse and walked into another room and around the corner. I ran out of space to test it, but it was over 10 meters. This should give you plenty of range no matter where in your gaming or workroom you place your receiver.

    Overall look and feel

As soon as I took the Razer Viper V3 out of the box, I immediately noticed the mass of this mouse. It’s incredibly lightweight, it doesn’t even feel like there’s anything in my hand. The mouse has a soft, matte-like feel, yet smooth at the same time.

The Razer Viper V3 Pro is good to use, and glides nicely. You can change the track feel by using the optional included skates. I like the black Razer logo against the white, but really missing my RGB with this mouse. I know a lot of the pros find it distracting, but to me, if there’s no RGB, it’s a deal-breaker.

    Customisation

There’s a button on the bottom of the mouse that’s called “POWER/DPI”. It does exactly what it says—power and DPI—however this button can be programmed to do whatever you want. There’s two buttons on the left-hand side of the mouse that can also be customised to suit your needs.

Coming back to the DPI button, I’m used to having something on top of the mouse for changing DPI and I understand that this would make the Razer Viper V3 Pro heavier, but it’s much more intuitive and easy to change on the fly when the DPI controls are on top of the mouse.

Razer Viper V3 Pro is wireless

One of the main reasons I dislike wireless devices, is the need to charge them. The Razer Viper V3 Pro looks like it has mitigated this issue. At full charge, the mouse should last up to 95 hours (at 1000Hz), and 17 hours (at 8000 Hz). This is really good for people like me who are always forgetting to charge their wireless devices.

    Availability

The Razer Viper V3 Pro is available to buy now. You can get it in either black or white, and it comes direct from the Razer store at A$279.00. Other specialty gaming and hardware stores are likely to stock the Razer Viper V3 Pro, so if you’re in the market for a new mouse, now is a good time to pick one up.
