If you wanted to get your grubby mitts on Microsoft’s Surface RT tablet before buying, then there’s some good news. Microsoft today confirmed that it is partnering with Harvey Norman and JB Hi Fi to expand the distribution channel for Surface in Australia.

“We’re excited to be working with JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman to expand the ways in which Australians can interact with, experience and purchase Surface,” said Nigel O’Rorke, Consumer Channels Group Lead, Microsoft Australia.”

While there’s no firm dates, the international retail announcement from Redmond says ‘mid-December’. While it’s an important step forward for Microsoft hardware and Windows 8, they have missed the Christmas shopping window.

In other Windows news, Microsoft Australia just confirmed, the number of certified Windows 8 PCs has grown to 1,500. These new devices will start to hit shelves worldwide in the coming weeks.
