Toshiba has announced the world’s first 512GB SSD, what’s amazing about the size is that it fits inside your laptop !
For a long time SSD’s have paled in comparison to their spindle bound counterparts when it comes to size. That issue is effectively now dead with the size now reaching 512GB, much larger than even the typical 250-300GB HDD currently available.
Then there’s the speed. new iterations of SSD technology means seek times, read and write speeds are all incredibly fast. Toshiba claim read speeds of up to 230MB per second and write speeds of up to 180MB per second. So where’s the downside ??
Unfortunately these don’t come cheap, but hey, we know the technology cycle, this is an early adopters device, it’s just a matter of time before these drop to a more digestible price tag.
There is some good news, these will be in Australia next month (when I should have a review for you).
