After mountains of rumours, Twitter has finally officially released Twitter #music.

“We’re releasing Twitter #music, a new service that will change the way people find music, based on Twitter” Twitter said.

The iOS and web app (sadly no native Android or Windows Phone) uses Twitter activity to detect and surface the most popular and emerging artists and then brings them front in centre. It also has a strong emphasis on artists twitter activity and brings that front and center.

Twitter users can also get 30-second snippets of songs from Spotify, Rdio and the default music provider – Apple’s iTunes store.

You can also tweet songs right from the app which people can see by following the hashtag #NowPlaying.

Strangely though, the service has quite little integration with Twitter itself and acts mostly like a separate service that you can just share a few things from Twitter too.

If you want to have a go, you can either go here for your web browser or download here for iOS.
