Westnet acquired by iiNet, making them 3rd largest ISP in Australia

Today Westnet have announced they’ve been acquired by iiNet for the healthy sum of $81 million.

The combination of the two entities now makes iiNet the third largest ISP in Australia. Surprisingly Westnet will continue to operate under it’s own brand, this seems a little strange, while there would be additional costs initially to update to iiNet branding, over the long term marketing and promotion budgets could benefit from a single brand.

Only time will tell if Westnet plans change after the deal is completed by the end of May.
