The new Samsung Gear S3 is the most refined and advanced wearable we’re seen from the company. One of its biggest assets is its unique 4 days worth of battery life. They’re able to achieve that pretty stunning battery life thanks to a 380mAh a significant upgrade on 250mAh from the Gear S2.
Announced at the IFA conference in Berlin, Samsung’s Gear S2 comes in 2 varieties, the classic and the frontier. The classic is the stylish edition for the day-to-day technology lover, while the frontier is for the active outdoors types. The frontier has a neat SOS feature if you happy to adventure a little too far and need help.
While inside of the Gear S3 devices feature much the same hardware as the last generation, the external design is a substantial re-engineering. The fit and finish actually looks incredibly stylish and the performance looks impressive.
In 2016, consumers are expecting a lot from their wearables and thanks to NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, wireless charging and even LTE connectivity (frontier only), the Gear S3 has plenty of neat tricks. The smartwatch runs Tizen OS 2.3.1 and now touts more than 10,00 apps, including Spotify, Uber, Yelp, iHeartRadio and more.
Whether you’re tapping to pay, or just using the watch to get mobile notifications, the extra battery life means you can enjoy the device much more like a normal watch and avoid stressing about a nightly charge. When it does come time to charge, there’s wireless charging, although we’d still like to see Intel’s charging bowl so we can throw our phones, watches and wireless earbuds in to charge overnight.
For the first time on the Gear series, the Gear S3 features Gorilla Glass SR+ from Corning, specifically designed to provide a tougher, more scratch resistant and crisp display wearable devices.
