This is Australia’s southern-most EV charger

If you buy an electric vehicle, you’ll want to travel everywhere you normally do and that includes to weird and wonderful places, like Southport, Tasmania. A coffee shop called ‘Rocket at the end of road’ has just installed an EV charger, inviting electric vehicle owners to visit.

The location is 8856 Huon Hwy, Southport TAS 7109, Australia and already has an entry on EV charger site Plugshare.com. This is located 97km or 1hr 24m drive from Hobart, and 300km and 3hr 48m from Launceston. Southport is a nice regional town with beach access a short walk from the Cafe. Coffee’s cost just $3.50 for a Cappuccino or Flat white and if you have kids, there’s ice create and cookies.

The AC charger features a Type-2 connector and if you are planning a visit, you’ll need to BYO charging cable.

It is great to see Australian businesses adding charging options to their business, encouraging a growing number of EV owners to visit and spend money with them. A number of wineries, hotels and other businesses have done this so it’s great to see this list growing.

Check out the company’s Facebook page and ask them any questions before you take the road trip.

If you’re chasing some fast charging, the closest is at Geeveston Visitor Centre, around 40km from this location, a 50kW Chargefox charger, installed as part of the Electric Highway Tasmania program.
